This is a review of my long awaited vacation. I reserved a stay at Camp Nepo, in the Ocala Natl Forest. My 85 yr old mother was to join me for four of my ten days there. When I arrived, the owners B+C Mars met me collected their money. They explained how to use the TV remote for the antenna fed TV, and left. The antenna cable, however was disconnected at the roof (no signal) The coverlets on the two sofas, seemed stained (they were, because I later washed one of them and it was fine after washing). I was unable to shower that evening because the valve in the shower, or some aspect of it (the listing said "we will meet you there and explain things, and make sure everything is working right" NOT!!!)
was only allowing scalding hot water, the temperature could NOT be reduced, after trying to figure out what was wrong. There were spider webs with live spiders inside the shower enclosure, and on the windows.

I
turned the water heater off hoping it would be cool enough to shower
the next morning. Two repair jobs scheduled for my first full day of
vacation. The next morning I poured my jug of water into the coffee pot
, and was greeted with several dead bugs, and bug body parts swirling
in in pot. I washed the coffee pot, before using it. I declined using
the toaster, not wanting to even imagine what was toasting in the bottom
of that crusty old toaster. The stove top and the sink strainer were
both crusted with grease and food. I washed EVERYTHING before and after
using.When the repairs were made the next day, the water softener was found not to be working and yet another repairman scheduled for the following day.Meanwhile I was finding out where I was to be "living".... with an incredible amount of insect feces, and dead bug body parts throughout the entire house, in literally EVERY room. THAT is the condition of a place I paid almost 1,000$ for a nine day stay. The front door of the cabin had a double key bolt, and no key, meaning I could not even lock the door

listed as "Lakefront cabin", I had been deceived. The lovely pictures of the lake, were taken from the screened porch. in speaking with the owner before renting, I had even asked her "were the pictures taken from the porch at the cabin?" She answered yes, ( just not the cabin I was going to stay in.

MY view was of the back of their cabin. IT was Labor Day weekend, so
I tried to wait out the convoy of 4WD pickups racing up and down the
road right behind the house, and the hunting dogs barking and baying all
day and into the night. So creeped out by the filth, my mother stayed
one day and left. The step down into the shower of almost a foot was
something she could not navigate at 85 yrs old. While we were sitting at
the dining room table doing a jigsaw puzzle, she leaned forward in her
chair, and with a cracking noise, the front leg of the chair broke and
left her hanging on the edge of the table yelling for help.The thought that this horrible filthy place is still listed... "Camp Nepo" on Homeaway, Flipkey and other vacation rental sites makes me angry, that these older people care so little about their property, about their guests, and about being responsible for others health and safety, as to allow people to stay in this horrible bug infested nightmare of a place.
The
"newly added" king bedroom seemed to be an enclosed back are that had
formerly been access to the garage, and the floor was actually ASPHALT
with outdoor carpet, and an area rug. The ONE DAY my mother stayed there
a huge grey five inch long millipede crawled right under the garage
door into her room . There was NO cell signal, extremely poor TV
antenna signal (kept going in and out) impossible to watch. In the end
Hurricane Irma began to threaten Florida. I could not get a signal on
anything to get storm updates, so glad to get away from this awful
place, I drove 4,1/2 hours back home to a nice clean hurricane.The owner of this cabin Barb Mars, does not care how she lies to you, be aware of that. She does not care about this cabin, and claims not to have insurance. I fail to see how you can LEGALLY rent a vacation property and not have insurance. I was accused of being a "complainer". She told me she had never had such complaints. After charging me a $75 CLEANING FEE, who in their right mind would not be furious ??? She did give me a partial refund because I left early. If not for the visit with my mom, I would not have stayed here at all, plus I was unable to see the extent of the filth and disrepair, before I was left there.
