I rest now, poised to move into the tender age of 73, on March 28.
And moving on ,moving more slowly, and in a new mindset. The things once so important to me, have faded into the past. You see my friends, I ALMOST drove myself to the grave.
in the two years before the covid debacle, I had ASSURED myself that the symptoms I was having were merely hemorrhoids, from standing behind the chair for ten hours a day. When our Gov said "GO HOME" to salons for a month, I thought I would rest up, and heal. Turns out I was wrong.
when the doctors opened back up, I ran to get my first ever colonoscopy.... with frightening results. Gastro demanded I have surgery ASAP, not longer that 30 days. I did . I had CT's, Pet scans, genetic tests, and other stuff. I was diabetic (resolving now) severely anemic, High blood pressure, had a cyst on one ovary and a whopping 8cm adenosarcoma in my descending colon. I reported on the date (sept 30, 2020) for surgery, then to my chemo doc for six months of Chemo.
SUDDENLY there were no priorities greater than getting healthy. I gave away my salon, and went home. I watched as my clients base disappeared at the mention of the (C) word, as if it were more contagious than covid. until then I had never spent one single day in a hospital . I had transfusions because of my low hemoglobin. I fought, I fought hard, nothing else mattered except doing what me doctors said, and eating and sleeping.
I am now getting ready to celebrate 5 YEARS since I rang the bell in April of 2021. FIVE memorable years since cancer left my body on Sept 2020. I have learned exactly how toxic modern processed "industrial" food items are. I am growing tomatoes, carrots, peppers, beets, dill, parsley, and lettuces, spring onions, in my own garden. I am managing my blood sugar well, and take a variety of herbal supplements to help blood sugar, cholesterol,, gut health , and heart.. I can read my blood work as well as a nurse, and have a nutritional library when I have questions. To think that for some lame reason.... money , ambition, fame? I almost gave my life.
The new me plays in my garden, eats cherry tomatoes off the vine, walks my dog in the park every day, sleeps adequately and eats wholesome food. NEVER again fast food, no dunkin, starbucks McD, BKing.
I stopped dying my hair four years ago, and it is all silver now.
But Ya know what???? if I want some ice cream, I get some
credit to some GREAT DOCS. Particia Masse, surgeon. Humberto Caldera, Oncology...Taryn Silverstein, Gastro,... Megan Shirley, Primary doc...Harlon Bieley, functional medicine
