Today I did something I have been wanting to do for a long time.
I dumped AT&T as my home phone provider. I am now VOIP'd with comcast.
The story is a long one, and , I have put up with AT&T's crappy customer service for way too long.
I have antiquated phone lines on my house. They were so old the plastic insulation had begun to crack, and my signal would get very crackly when the humidity was high, or rainy. I was actually asked to pay $85 once to have a line repaired. I was expecting a new line. What I got was a big clump of tape on the existing old line. Now THAT pissed me off!
actual(weathered) picture of $85 repair!
. I argued and fretted and was able to get a credit for the charge, on the condition I sign up for the wiring maintenance plan, I did. Then I waited six months, and reported my faulty wiring again, thinking I had it licked this time. The tech came out and told me that MY wiring was TOO OLD for qualify for the maintenance plan. I would have to PAY (yep $85 per hour) to have the wires replaced, THEN my plan would cover any further repairs. Color me P.O.'d!!
So I ran a wire myself, and rigged a sloppy phone line myself. FINE! But I never got over the slap in the face that AT&T's customer service had dealt me.
So, now I am officially enrolled in Comcast's triple play package, and I had the pleasure of calling AT&T and telling them goodbye. They (she) seemed SO surprised!! "But Joanne, you have been with us since the early eighties!". That's right, II said, "and I thought you might have thought about that before treating me like you did" Thirty years, never late on a bill, and I cant even get a roll of wire out of them!
All water under the bridge! I have Comcast at the salon too, and next December, my contract with AT&T will expire, and so will my service with them. can't wait.
I guess there are enough new folks trying this and that to keep them rolling, but honestly, there are a LOT of people who say the same thing about AT&T..... they treat their customers like crap!
(that is probably why they scam you with a "contract" of two to three years in order to get their competitive prices.)
BYE SCAMMY GUYS!!!!!

Good for you. It feels good to dump poor service and get good service. Good for you.
Have a terrific day. Big hug. :)
That's ridiculous. I don't blame you for dumping them. I can't think of any AT&T horror stories right now, but my husband once called the FCC to complain about Qwest. Oh, the joy!
Willy dumped them a while back for VOIP - great move
10-4 Willy
