I know that the economic environment in this country is not well (swine flu?) and that companies are doing whatever they can to limit spending and waste. However, I want to ask you guys (both of you) if anything like this has happened in your corner of the world.
I bought a glass cooktop from Lowes. It was sold to me at discount, as "new, display model". It was lovely, and I needed a new one (mine is 15 years old). I noticed that the glass had a minor defect, the seal holding the glass on had popped loose in one spot. They assured me that GE would fix it under warranty. I bought the cook top and made an appointment for service right at the store.
HOWEVER>>>> when I got the unit home to unpack, I noticed something odd. The wiring had been very poorly adapted to a plug. The units at the store are not "hot" (they are not hooked up). So why was this one wired to plug in??? I guess because it was a customer return, and NOT a display. When I went to the store angry about the deception, I was immediately offered another hundred dollars off. I took it.
next phase is the repairman. he shows up a week later and tells me that the seal cannot be repaired, the entire glass top must be replaced at a service center. I took it back to the store and ordered a different brand ( I was never fond of GE anyway)
SO, now I get my full price, no discount, special order Frigidaire cooktop delivered and open the box to discover.... guess what!! ANOTHER cooktop that shows that it has been taken home and installed by someone else!! Can you believe that crap?? Two in a row. I called Lowes, and they assured me it was shipped from Frigidaire to their warehouse and then straight to me. Frigidaire did not seem to offer more than "just return it to the store for a refund" and to boot, no 800 number, a long distance number on my dime, to get blown off. I told them I would return the item, but I would NOT be ordering another Frigidaire product. My favorites are Whirlpool, and Maytag.
Has anybody experienced this type of thing??? Am I asking too much??
I really only want some honesty when I am spending my hard earned cash, don't you???

Lowe's seems to be racking up quite a few complaints. We don't shot there. Hubby won't go and their service leaves a great deal to be desired. Well, in this area of the country. Sorry this has happened to you.
Have a terrific day. :)
This doesn't surprise me. I've had several things turn out to be customer returns recently. It pisses me off too. Sigh ...
