this just in.......

Peaches the duck went to Folke Peterson wildlife Hospital this morning. She does not have enough appetite to sustain her, and her bum leg needs checking out. So Peaches found herself in a box....

Then in the car........

I have been out there quite a few times. Once Miss Bee's Momma, stood wide-eyed and rather unwillingly held a tote bag for me while I caught an injured Kestrel hawk, and put him in the bag . That bird had a very badly fractured wing, but was able to regain flight, and was released!

Back to Peaches. Her leg is not broken, only soft tissue injury, she is also underweight, and needs a few days in the hospital where she will have other of her kind to quack to about how horrible her little duck life is going so far. When she is gaining weight and eating well, I can finish her rehab here in my yard, then release her when she is more mature. They said she is a juvenile, not near her full weight yet.

The Reptile and Water Bird enclosures together encompass almost 6,000 square feet and each contains a man-made pond with a fountain and native landscaping.

I expect Peaches will be fine in a few days , her head is all better, and I had to remove the crusty that covered her shin, so that her "Do" could grow back! Soon she will look like Sarge at the beauty salon. HAR HAR HAR

(PS) that weird white dot on the duck/truck picture is a raindrop on the lens. I guess the flash lit it up, cool, huh?
